Praia Da Rocha, near Portimáo.
This is probably the Algarve's best known beach.
Located to the south of the town of Portimáo,
Praia Da Rocha was originally much smaller, but
has grown over time from the sand that was
dredged from the Portimáo harbour. A very
popular beach. |

Sao Rafael beach, near Albufeira.
As well as its long golden beaches, the Algarve is
also known in parts for its rocky coastline, with
abundant coves and caves. Sao Rafael beach is
known as a cove beach, combining sand and rock
in equal proportion. There is plenty of room for
traditional sandy beach pursuits, but also a great
deal of scope for exploration of the rocky
headlands as well. |

Armona beach, off the coast of Olháo.
If you're looking for peace and quiet, then one of
the island beaches is for you! To get to the
islands of Culatra, Farol or Armona, you will need
to catch a ferry-boat from Olháo for a
half-hour's journey. Once there, you will find
yourself as one of a limited number of visitors.
Heaven for those of us who want some peace
and quiet from our holiday! Ferries between Olháo
and the islands operate at 15 minute intervals
each day. |
